Auricular Acupuncture

A Microsystem within the Ear

what is Auricular Acupuncture?

Auricular acupuncture is a form of acupuncture that focuses solely on treatment through the stimulation of points on the ear.

Using the ear to diagnosis and treat illnesses has been recorded for centuries around the world. The earliest record is the Egyptian Papyrus Ebers at 1500 BC, where gynecological problems were treated by needling and cauterizing the ear. Records in China have shown that auricular points have been used for over 2,000 years. In 1956, Dr. Paul Nogier of Lyon, France presented his findings on treating the body by treating the ear. He also presented his resulting ear chart, which was combined with the Chinese ear chart and this combined chart is what is used today.

How Does it work?

The Chinese theory of auricular states that all yang channels are directly connected to the ear, and the yin organs indirectly through their yang pair. Thus, through treating the ear you can treat the internal organs. The Western theory states that the ear is image of an upside down human. The points used correlate to the affected area.

Diagnosis is not as complicated as a full body treatment, as we treat the direct areas or symptoms of concern. A visualization of the ear can also gives clues to which areas to focus on, such as dry patches. If needed, we can use an electronic point finder to pinpoint where to focus. After locating 2-6 points to treat, needles are inserted and the patient can relax for 20 minutes.

Treatment is done 1-3 times a week until symptoms are under control. Most conditions require 4-12 treatments, depending on chronicity or severity.

Appointments are 30 minutes and only cost $30. This is an affective and affordable treatment for many disorders.

Smoking Cessation & MOre

Auricular acupuncture and specifically the NADA Protocol has been used in the US successfully to help support patients through the process of treating addiction, managing mental and behavioral health, and for disaster & emotional trauma.

NADA has been found to work best as a group therapy. Sitting together in solidarity with others who are also struggling helps to create a community of support and expectance.

Auricular acupuncture and NADA are more than just help for quitting smoking, it is also an affordable and simple support modality in managing stress, anxiety, depression, mental and behavioral health, sleep issues, and more! It can help with stress from work and school! Many students have used these sessions to help with the stress of finals and even SAT/ACT exams.
